First Porsche discovered after 112 years of hiding

 First Porsche unearthed
For as much as we talk about barn finds, the window of time for such vehicles tends to be measured in a few decades; any more than that and the ravages of time and memory tend to destroy anything so long abandoned. On Monday, Porsche revealed that it had recently acquired the barn find of the century — the first car ever designed by founder Ferdinand Porsche, which hit the roads of Austria in 1898, and has been locked away untouched for the past 112 years.

Lifetime Achievement Award: The Beatles

GRAMMY winner Danger Mouse tips his cap to the Fab Four

(In addition to the GRAMMY Awards, The Recording Academy presents Special Merit Awards recognizing contributions of significance to the recording field, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award and Technical GRAMMY Award.)
I didn't grow up on the Beatles. In fact, by the time I got to college I couldn't have named one Beatles song if you put a gun to my head. Honestly. I listened to '80s pop when I was young, and mostly to hip-hop in middle/high school. My parents were exclusively '60s/'70s soul/R&B listeners, so I was oblivious. My tastes expanded a bit when I was in college, but the Beatles were always this huge group that I just thought couldn't be all that interesting if they were so popular. Any pictures I remembered had them all dressed alike and smiling a lot. I like darker, melancholy music in general, so I was skeptical. However, as I got more into music, and even started making music, I started to hear more and more about how the Beatles had been a huge influence on much of the music I was discovering. I had some research to do. …

Obama calls for shift from war to diplomacy

The US president devoted a surprising amount of his State of the Union speech to a less interventionist foreign policy.

President Barack Obama, speaking to the US Congress in his annual State of the Union address last night, renewed his pledge to withdraw most US combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of this year and said he would emphasise diplomacy to address the world's conflicts.

"America must move off a permanent war footing," Obama said in a speech watched on television by an estimated 30 million US viewers. "I will not send our troops into harm's way unless it's truly necessary. Nor will I allow our sons and daughters to be mired in open-ended conflicts."

Jonathan seeks death penalty for cyber crime

President Goodluck Jonathan has proposed a death sentence on persons who hack into the Critical National Information Infrastructure or computer networks resulting in the loss of lives
The proposal is contained in the Cyber Crime Bill 2013, which is before the House of Representatives.

However, where there is no loss of lives but the offender causes “grievous bodily injury” to another person, the bill recommends a prison term of not less than 15 years.

Using any computer network for terrorism purposes also attracts life sentence.

The bill defines Critical National Information Infrastructure as “certain computer systems, networks and information infrastructure vital to the national security of Nigeria or the economy and social well-being of its citizens.”

The bill frowns on child badography, as it imposes a 10-year jail term for offenders or a fine of N20million or both.

The bill criminalises the use of force to engage children in sexual activities.

Offenders are liable to being convicted to10 years imprisonment or a fine of N15m

Good Music Boss, Kanye West settles man he beat up in Beverly Hills with $250,000

You get rough handled by Kanye West and receive $250,000 (N40m). According to TMZ, Kanye has settled the man he beat up in the waiting room of a Beverly Hills chiropractor with more than $250k.
The young man who allegedly hurled racial epithets at Kim earlier this month has agreed to the civil settlement and now feels satisfied enough that he does not want to go forward with a criminal prosecution. Law enforcement sources tell us ... the D.A. has not decided whether to charge Kanye with battery. The reality is ... there's almost no chance of that happening.  First, the D.A. now has an uncooperative victim. Second, the victim's alleged racial epithets will not sit well with the jury. And there are probably lots of Kanye fans in the jury pool. We're told during the settlement negotiations the victim's demand soared to the upper 6 figures, so $250K is just a fraction. We called Kanye's civil lawyer, Shawn Holley for comment ... but we got nothin'.Nevertheless ... we're calling it case closed." TMZ reports

Queen Elizabeth II down to her last million due to overspending

According to new reports, the Queen of England is down to her last $1.6m in reserves after royal overspending. She was once the richest woman in the world (in the 80s) and in 2010 Forbes mag estimated her net worth at around $450 million and now she's broke? Nah!! Read the report below..

From Eonline

Perhaps Queen Elizabeth II could learn something from her thrifty granddaughter-in-law Kate Middleton. The 87-year-old monarch has been overspending the royal family's famous fortune, according to a report published by the Commons Public Accounts Committee on Monday, Jan. 27.
Following her courtiers' advice, Her Majesty the Queen's reserve fund has fallen from £35 million ($58 million) in 2001 to just £1 million ($1.6 million) in 2014. The report states the royal family is "spending above their means and dipping into the reserves...the balance now stands at an all-time low." Continue...

The report also reveals that a number of palaces are in "dangerous or deteriorating" conditions. Forty percent of them, in fact, are "below acceptable standards." It's not exactly new information, as Queen Elizabeth II knows that there's an $82 million backlog in repairs due to tightened government funding.

Taxpayers fund the royal palaces in Britain, comprised of more than 300 buildings. In 2013, the public spent about £31 million ($51 million) renovating and operating the facilities. The report urged the treasury to "get a grip" and help the royal family to prevent "further damage and deterioration."

According to the report, royal staff members have been forced to catch rain in buckets to protect art and antiquities in some locations. Queen Elizabeth II's "antiquated" boilers are more than 60 years old.

"The Queen has not been served well by the Household and by the Treasury," said Margaret Hodge, the labor chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. "We got the impression that they just haven't tried to make greater savings. Here we are, we're all in it together, but they are failing to eek better value for the Queen. They are dipping into their reserves in a way that just isn't sensible."

"If you look at the Tower of London and its visitor numbers it makes you think that there's potential there. Have they done their darndest to maximize value for money?" Hodge wondered.

The royal household has pledged to introduce a 10-year maintenance plan to resolve the backlog. It has also pledged to increase the size of its reserve fund. Married to Prince Philip since 1947, Queen Elizabeth II has four children and eight grandchildren—including Prince William & Prince Harry.

Secondary school Cult group threaten to kill Corpers in Kogi

Here's a bizarre email I got from a batch A Corp member serving in Victory Model College, Efodo - Okpo, Olamaboro L.G.A of Kogi State. The mail below and the threat written on a blackboard above
It's no good news to hear that NYSC Corp Members are treated with discontentment in Kogi State, especially in remote local government like Olamaboro.
There have been cases of some drunk youths ganging up to launch attack on corpers at their capital project sites, accusing them of integrating strange norms into their culture
Let me go straight to what I witnessed this morning. I woke up this morning like every other boring mornings in the village where I serve, dressed up, and went to the school. On arrival, all the students were gathered at one corner looking at me and the other Corp members, some with satisfaction, while others with pity.
On getting to the class rooms, we saw some write-ups directly warning me and other three(3) batch A Corp members. The pictures attached to this email will help tell the story better (even with the wrong English). Continue...

How Record Labels and Radio Stations Work Together

If you understand the business relationship between record labels and radio stations, you understand the very essence of the music business. To put it simply, they need each other. A record label needs radio airplay to deliver the music of its artists to an audience of radio listeners. A radio station needs music programming to broadcast to that audience. But of course there’s a little more to it than that.
Anyone who is interested in getting their music on the radio must realize that the relationship between these two businesses is complex. Understanding some of the basic issues of record promotion and radio broadcasting will better prepare you for the challenges that await, should you ever attempt to solicit your music to a commercial or non-commercial radio station. continue after cut...
